Looking to the Future

The UK has the biggest wind resource in Europe – some estimates put the UK's share at one-third of the continent's total. The UK Secretary of state for energy said: "Today's news shows we're creating the right conditions for the energy industry to invest in harnessing it." Taking advantage of the country's potential wind power will be critical in meeting the targets set by government for the UK to meet 15% of its energy needs from renewable sources by 2020.

Servicing the Future

The EWEA has a target of 40GW of offshore wind energy by 2020. This will mean manufacturing, installing and operating an average of three or four offshore turbines every working day for the next 12 years in the EU.

This is not just an environmentalist’s charter. Europe’s traditional power plants are aging and 50% of current electricity generation capacity needs to be replaced in the next 12 years according to the EU.

The renewable energy sector is potentially another industrial revolution in terms of the scale of the market, the advances in technology and the changes to the landscape. The UK led the world in the last industrial revolution and at Parkol Marine we believe we have the skills, workforce and services to be at the forefront of this one.
